Salt mines and Berchtesgaden

 

Salzburg, “salt fortress” the name says it all! The cities foundation and subsequent wealth  all stem from the “white gold” .

A short drive will take us to the active salt mines of Berchtesgaden. Dress up in miners’ overalls and a train will take you into the heart of the mountain. Scoot down 2 slides and take a boat over an underground lake. Amazing experience and great fun for the whole family.

 

After the mines we can visit the market town of Berchtesgaden for a stroll and refreshments before returning with a scenic drive over the mountains.
